The five biggest Home Improvement Ideas to Consider

home improvement is a very broad field, with many ideas to choose from. During the summer, many people think about the retirement of their homes, making improvements to certain rooms in the house, but often not sure which improvements to make. Low-cost home improvements that not only enhance the look of your home, but also help you to save money in the long run, is the best of the plans for the present. I am writing this to list these ideas and, who knows, help to awaken your imagination. These are the top 5 ideas for home improvement for 2009 is:

1.) The Installation of “Green” Technology – Due to the need of almost everyone to save money now, and because of the increased awareness of the need to save our environment, the top home improvement plan now is the installation of “green” technology, also known as “going green.” This can include installments as solar panels, energy generating windmills, environmentally friendly cleaning, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems and energy-saving lamps. Solar panels can be more expensive in the beginning, but will save you a huge amount of money in the long run, create your own energy. The same applies for energy-efficient heating and cooling system – it will help you save money on your electric bill. Wind turbines can not only help you to create your own electricity, but they can be made with parts from the junkyard. You can’t get much cheaper than this! In addition, many of these “going green” improvements will help you qualify for tax relief and help the environment. It is a win-win situation.

2.) Install a programmable thermostat – This can be a simple improvement, but don’t underestimate it. The Installation of a programmable thermostat will help you save money on your electric bill. How is this done? Rather than having the air conditioning or heater running all day, the pre-programmed thermostat only turns on the ac or the heat when the temperature in the house gets very hot or very cold. This keeps the central heating and cooling systems from running unnecessarily and, in turn, saves you money.

3.) Re-insulate your home, make sure that your home is well insulated will also help you save money on your energy bill. This is because an insulated home will not let in cool air in the summer, and it will not let out the warm air in the winter. That also keeps the hot or cold air from drafting into the house.

4.) Paint or re-decorate your living room – This may seem like a very simple improvement to your home, but it is effective. Painting your rooms and re-decorating in soothing colors and accents will help you relax and want to spend more time in your new home decorated. Take care of yourself, along with the new project, and you will feel as if you are on a spa escape.

5.) Put in a patio – This is probably the most expensive option (if you don’t have close friends or family members who are carpenters) but it is worth the price. A patio or terrace, you can relax and enjoy the sun’s rays in your own backyard. You can have a barbecue with family and friends, sun bathe on a chaisse lounge, or watch the stars from your patio. The good thing about putting on a patio is that it is actually cheaper than adding a room in your home. A patio can be a small addition, but will not be more than pay for itself with all the hours of relaxation you will pay.

no matter what home improvement ideas you decide to choose, the payoff will be well worth it. Even if these ideas are not what you are looking for, there are many other low cost home improvement ideas. This year, less is more, is the strategy for home improvement, and saving money is the best.
